Project Information:

In 2022, D’Angelo Bros., Inc. completed the underpinning for the New Jersey Executive State House in Trenton, New Jersey.  The New Jersey Executive State House is the capitol building of the State of New Jersey and was built in 1792 making it one of the oldest buildings in the United States.  We were 1 of 3 contractors pre-qualified for the underpinning work on this project due to our extensive underpinning experience especially with historic structures constructed with stone masonry foundations.  We have previously underpinned the Academy of Music (Built in 1857), Wistar Institue (Built in 1894), University of Pennsylvania Logan Hall (Built in 1874) and the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (Built in 1899) as well as many other notable and historic structures.  The underpinning for the New Jersey State House was necessitated by renovations and additions to the building, most notable the new extensive mechanical trench system in the basement.  Our crews installed over 400 concrete underpinning piers varying in depth from 4 feet to 12 feet and totaling over 1,000 cubic yards of concrete.  Most of the underpinning was installed from the inside of the building with some rooms only having 30″ wide doorway openings for access.  Close coordination of underpinning layout was required to accommodate the new mechanical trench.
